‘Wisdom and Spirit of the universe! Thou soul that art the eternity of thought, that givest to forms and images a breath and everlasting motion’ wrote Wordsworth. Atheists will say these words are mere pleasing fantasies. The only realities are material. But how do they know? Can they put Wordsworth’s experiences in a test tube and heat them on a bunsen burner? What I distrust in atheists is their certainty in face of the great mystery of the universe. Science can tell us all. But science can only tell us what science can tell us. It cannot tell us if there is anything of which it cannot tell us.
