The NT versus the NFU

The National Trust and the National Farmers Union are in head on collision over the maintenance of the subsidies at present paid by the EU after Brexit.  The Trust’s case is that the subsidies encourage farmers to over-produce,  destroying wild life on a huge scale by drenching their land with chemicals to get every last bushel and litre out of it,  creating the butter mountains and wine lakes,  exporting surpluses to the third world to ruin farmers there, and ultimately reducing  the very land they farm to a desert (google Only Sixty Years of Farming left), while all the while the public are paying artificially high prices for their food in order to finance the subsidies.  The NFU’s case is that farmers will be poorer and the UK less competitive on world markets.
