The new discoveries science makes are sometimes so astonishing, so overturning of everything that had previously been in the mind, they cast all previous discoveries in so different a light it is almost as if those discoveries had never been made but surrogate replicas  in their stead. Thus Galileo thought that the sun, or more precisely a mathematical point close to the sun, was at the centre of the universe.  How wrong could you be?  What even more astonishing discoveries will science make in the future?  It is almost as if science as yet knows nothing.
